The Hang Seng Index HK:HSI -0.25% shed 0.7% to 21,552.61 and
the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gave up 1.1% to 9,742.26. Shares of
China's largest lender ICBC HK:1398 -0.20% IDCBY +1.51% dropped 1% and those of
BOC HK:3988 -0.92% BACHY +0.77% declined 1.2% although both reported an increase
in profits in the first half of the year, amid concerns bad loans could rise.
China's Shanghai Composite Index CN:SHCOMP -.00% gave up 0.2% to 2,093.06.
