October platinum PLV3 +3.17% settled up $2.80, or 0.2%, to $1,425.20 an ounce, and was as high as $1,467.90 in electronic trading.

Copper settled higher with the December contract HGZ3 +1.71% tacking on nearly 6 cents, or 1.7%, to settle at nearly $3.28 a pound after closing almost flat a day earlier. It was as high as $3.32 a pound in recent activity.
