with gains in all major sectors. Shares of Westpac Banking Corp. AU:WBC +1.72%
WEBNF -1.56% advanced 0.9% and Commonwealth Bank of Australia AU:CBA +0.87%
CBAUF -0.91% gained 0.4% ahead of an expected decision on Tuesday by Australia's
central bank rate to hold the benchmark interest rate at 2.5%. Most miners were
higher, but shares of Newcrest Mining Ltd. AU:NCM +0.15% NCMGF -1.91% and
Evolution Mining Ltd. AU:EVN +1.08% CAHPF +0.56% declined by 0.2% and 0.5%,
respectively, following a pullback in gold futuresbelow $1,400 an ounce
