U.S. stocks dropped sharply on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.32% and the S&P 500 SPX -0.47% both retreating from record highs as investors continued to absorb a surprise earlier in the week from the Fed, which left its bond-buying program intact.
