The moves came after both the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.35% and S&P 500 SPX +0.48% ended at record closes on Wednesday, in anticipation of Yellen’s testimony to the Senate Banking Committee. In her prepared remarks, released after the market close late Wednesday, Yellen defended the central bank’s bond-buying program that has boosted stocks, adding that the Fed “has more work to do.” The confirmation hearing is scheduled for later Thursday, and markets will be looking for any indication of when the Federal Reserve will start scaling back its $85-billion-a-month asset purchases.
