February crude oil CLG4 +0.06% tacked on 28 cents, or 0.3%, to settle at $99.32 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange on the contract’s first full trading day as a front-month contract.
Tracking the most-active contracts, prices were up 2.8% from last Friday’s close of $96.60 for the January contract, FactSet data show. They also held their ground at the highest closing level since late October. Year to date, prices are up roughly 8%.
