Gold for February delivery GCG4 +0.03% rose $6.30, or 0.5%, to finish at $1,203.30 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. March silver SIH4 -0.07% rose 7 cents to $19.48 an ounce.
Copper stole the show, however, with the March contract HGH4 +0.22% rising 6 cents, or 1.8%, to settle at $3.37. The copper contract appeared to surge as high as $3.45 a pound at 11:49 a.m. Eastern, but a CME Group spokesman said that an “error trade” had occurred at that time. The exchange was adjusting any trades that took place above $3.42 at that time downward to $3.42, the spokesman said.
