Asian markets were mixed on Tuesday following a second straight day of gains on Wall Street, while Thailand's baht was only marginally down after the army declared martial law after months of deadly anti-government protests.
With little to drive buying action, investors were focusing on the release later in the week of several key indicators and news events.
Tokyo rose 0.47 per cent after four straight losses, Hong Kong added 0.24 per cent and Shanghai was 0.33 per cent higher while Seoul was 0.37 per cent lower, Sydney shed 0.22 per cent.
