The Japanese yen also saw big moves Friday, with the dollar USDJPY, +0.35% at one point rallying to a fresh post-financial-crisis high of ¥109.46, compared to ¥108.62 late Thursday in North America.
The euro EURUSD, -0.71% eased to $1.2840 from late Thursday’s $1.2920. The Australian dollar AUDUSD, -0.71% bought 89.40 U.S. cents for a loss of 0.5% on the day, according to FactSet, while the Canadian dollar USDCAD, +0.21% traded flat against the U.S. dollar at 91.36 cents, compared to 91.39 cents late Thursday.
The ICE Dollar Index DXY, +0.60% a measure of the dollar against six rival currencies, rose to 84.7710 from 84.2870. The WSJ dollar index BUXX, +0.49% which measures the dollar against a slightly larger basket, rose 0.4% to 76.83.
