SGX Singapore Opening Market Update : Epic Research Singapore

DESPITE the US index closing on a lacklustre note, the Singapore stock market opened modestly up on Thursday morning.

The Straits Times Index opened 0.04 per cent higher or up 1.55 points at 3,448.57 on Thursday morning. Some 74.2 million shares changed hands as at 9.03am. Gainers beat losers 82 to 69.

Among the most active stocks were CNA Group, Polaris and Noble Group.

On Wall Street overnight, the S&P 500 closed lower following disappointing US jobs and manufacturing data, raising concerns that the economy was losing momentum.

Closer to home, Australia is releasing a closely-watched inflation report and job vacancies data on Thursday, before an expected meeting by the Reserve Bank of Australia next week.
