Materials Stocks Average 9% in the First Four Months of 2015
The new listing of GCCP Resources last week brings the total number of GICS®-categorised Materials stocks to 56. The 56 stocks listed in Singapore have a combined market capitalisation of S$6 billion, and averaged 9% price gain in the year thus far. These 56 stocks also maintain an average yield of 3%.
Over the past three years, Construction Materials industry was the strongest performer with an average return of 31%, while Containers & Packaging industry generated an average decline of 61%.
The best performers in the year-to-date were Junma Tyre Cord Company, USP Group, China Environmental Resources Group, Midas Holdings, and Changtian Plastic & Chemical. Three of the companies – Junma Tyre Cord Company, China Environmental Resources Group and Changtian Plastic & Chemical are involved in the Chemicals industry while the remaining have operations in Metals & Mining industry.

These 56 stocks have a combined market capitalisation of S$6 billion, and averaged 9.0% price gain in the year thus far. They also maintain an average yield of 2.6%. Last week, mining play GCCP Resources listed on the Catalist Board with a current market capitalisation of S$212 million.
Materials sector can be further broken down to Chemicals, Construction Materials, Containers & Packaging, Metals & Mining and Paper & Forest Products industries according to GICS®.
