THE local market opened 0.5 per cent higher as at 9.03am on Monday, with the Straits Times Index gaining 16.28 points to 3,369.73.
The blue-chip index was boosted by Wall Street gains on Friday, which saw the Nasdaq close at a record high while the S&P inched up a minor 0.1 per cent.
About 111 million shares worth S$153 million in total changed hands in early trading, which worked out to an average unit price of S$1.38 per share.
The most actively traded stock was Vallianz, which rose S$0.004 to S$0.056 with 10.1 million shares changing hands. Other actives included CEFC International and New Silkroutes.
Gainers outnumbered losers 106 to 47, or about nine up for every four down.
