In other metals, October platinum PLV5, +0.18%  lost $7.60, or 0.8%, to trade at $950.90 an ounce, after finishing at 958.50 an ounce in the previous session, while palladium PAV5, -0.76%  gave up $5.60, or nearly 1%, to close at $593 an ounce.

High-grade copper HGU5, +0.38%  shed a penny, or 0.4%, to finish at $2.35 a pound.
