In other metals trading, October platinum PLV5, +0.71%  was $3.40 higher, or 0.4%, at $959.70 an ounce, while September palladium PAU5, -0.18%  lost 35 cents, or less than 0.1%, to $599.45 an ounce.

September high-grade copper futures HGU5, -0.66%  was down 0.2% o $2.337 a pound.
