SINGAPORE's benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) opened lower at 3,185.18 at 9.01am on Tuesday, down 7.61 points or 0.2 per cent. This followed a retreat of US stocks overnight after US data showed slightly weaker manufacturing activity and a modest gain in consumer spending.Some 56.7m shares worth S$78.3m changed hands. Losers outnumbered gainers 79 to 64.
Top volume stocks in early morning trading included Noble Group, which rebounded 4.3 per cent to 49 cents, Global Logistic Properties, and Golden Agri-Resources.
