The Straits Times Index trades 0.2% higher at 2,887.04 in early trade, defying a downturn elsewhere in Asia and overnight in the US despite a dearth of corporate or national news to drive trading.
Olam International rises 2.3%, recovering from Tuesday's losses, while Hongkong Land and Jardine Cycle & Carriage gain 1.5% each.
Wilmar International falls 2.1% after announcing that a subsidiary has acquired another company for 9.7 million ringgit. Analysts are not upbeat about the day's prospects.
“Poor overnight leads may push the STI below 2,850 again. There is a significant barrier at the 2,800 mark, and a retest of the lows at 2,808.31 on 25 August 2015 may be on the cards," says IG market strategist Bernard Aw.
