THE local market opened 0.5 per cent higher as at 9.00am on Wednesday, with the Straits Times Index rising 13.99 points to 3,033.02.The blue-chip index gained despite a mildly lower finish on Wall Street.
About 81.7 million shares worth S$25 million in total changed hands, which worked out to an average unit price of S$0.31 per share.
The most actively traded stock was Hu An Cable, which rose S$0.004 to S$0.016 with 27.4 million shares changing hands. Other actives included New Silkroutes and China Environment.
Gainers outnumbered losers 86 to 49, or about seven up for every four down.
