Del Monte Pacific Limited swung back to profitability in 2Q with earnings of US$53.3 million from losses of US$0.18 million a year ago. Revenue came in 20.1% higher at US$658 million on strong sales of its key branded business in the US and the Philippines under the Del Monte Brand and the rest of Asia under the S&W brand. Del Monte Pacific Limted last traded at 29 cents.
Sembcorp Industries' US$200 million ($281.5 million) expansion works of the Fujairah 1 Independent Water and Power Plant (IWPP) in the UAE is completed and has began operations. This makes the plant one of the largest reverse osmosis desalination facilities in the Middle East. Sembcorp closed 3.8% lower at $3.03 today.
Sapphire Corporation announced that its recently acquired Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) business, Ranken Infrastructure, has secured new railway infrastructure contracts in China, worth RMB916 million ($200 million). Ranken will carry out new projects for urban rail transit metro lines in two cities – Guiyang and Qingdao – and construct a tunnel as part of the 1,814km cross-country Menghua Railway project over the next 2 to 3 years. Sapphire closed 0.96% lower at 10.3 cents.
mm2 Asia has signed an MOU with Hesheng Media Co, one of the largest integrated media companies in China, to co-produce movies, dramas and reality shows, as well as digital media content for the international market. mm2 Asia last traded at 79 cents.
Stamford Tyres, the tyre and wheel distributor, posted a 7% rise in 2Q earnings to $916,000 from a year ago despite 23% lower revenue of $58 million. This was due to higher gross profit margin, lower operating expenses and higher share of results of joint ventures. The stock closed flat at 28 cents.
Ace Achieve Infocom saw its 1HFY2015's earnings rose 2.33% to RMB16 million ($3.5 million) on the back of better marketing strategy and market conditions. Revenue increased 3% to RMB125 million. Ace closed at two cents, down 22.22% today.
HLH Group, the agriculture and property group, has acquired 30% interest in two plots of lands of sizes with sizes of 4,295 sqm and 5,427 sqm located at Preah Sihanouk Province in Cambodia for US$2.8 million ($3.9 million). HLH closed 10% higher at 1.1 cents.
Charisma Energy Services has sold 200 million new shares to investor Patrick Tan Choon Hock at 1.152 cents each. Upon completion of the proposed subscription, Tan's stake of 3.7% will increase to 5.4% in the enlarged capital of the company and he will become a substantial shareholder. Charisma Energy last traded at 1.3 cents.
