Japan's economy shrinks 0.4% in 4Q

Japan's economy contracted 0.4% in October-December from the third quarter of last year, hurt by weak private consumption and housing investment, Cabinet Office data showed on Monday (Feb 15).

On a year-ago basis, the economy contracted at an annualised rate of 1.4%.

The preliminary figure for gross domestic product compared with the median estimate of a 1.2% contraction in a Reuters poll of economists.

It followed a revised 1.3% gain in July-September.
