SINGAPORE share prices opened lower on Wednesday with the Straits Times Index down 1.68 points to 2,777.09 as at 9.30am, after Wall Street losses the previous day and amid concerns over China's slowing economy.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 109.85 points lower at 16,964.10 on Tuesday, paring earlier gains from a three-week rebound through Monday.
This came on the heels of the release of weaker China trade data, which showed wider-than-expected declines in the country's exports and imports.
Top gainers in early-morning trade in Singapore included Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) and Ezra Holdings. Some 298.7 million shares worth S$222.7 million changed hands, with gainers outnumbered by losers 83 to 89.
