Xpress links China supermarket JV talks to share surge

Xpress Holdings says it is in discussions with certain parties to take part in a China supermarket business through a minority stake.

“However, no agreement has been reached on the proposed JV and there is no certainty as to whether such a proposed JV will take place,” says Xpress in a night filing on Monday.

The disclosure from Xpress follows a trading query by Singapore Exchange on Monday morning after which the counter was halted near 1pm. It will resume trading on Tuesday.

As announced on May 16, Xpress is also exploring the possibility of adding smart technologies, publishing and investment to its core businesses as it explores various business opportunities.

The company says it will in due course provide more information to shareholders and convene an extraordinary general meeting to seek shareholders’ approval to add the proposed activities to the group’s business.

Shares of Xpress closed 6.9% higher at 77 cents.
