Elsewhere in the metals spectrum, July silver SIN6, -0.08%  edged up by 10.3 cents, or 0.6%, to $17.514 an ounce, while copper for the same month HGN6, -0.57% rose 4.2 cents, or 2.1%, to $2.093 a pound.

Platinum for July PLN6, +0.47% gained $21.10, or 2.2%, to $987.20 an ounce and palladium for September PAU6, +0.37%  added $18.80, or 3.6%, to $548.45 an ounce.
