Taiwan: Stocks fall; tech, shipping counters help limit losses

Taiwan stocks fell on Friday in keeping with nervousness in some overseas markets, but losses were limited as key technology and shipping stocks rose.

Some Asian shares were weak on uncertainty over the potential for a strong US nonfarm payrolls number later in day - and with it an elevated chance of a Federal Reserve rate hike soon.

As of 0230 GMT, the main Taiex index fell 0.5 per cent to 8,960.75, after closing down 0.8 per cent in the previous session.

The electronics subindex sank 0.8 per cent, while the financials subindex lost 0.2 per cent.
But some share gains were coming on back of troubles at rival companies that could bolster business for the Taiwanese listed firms.

Shares in Hon Hai Precision were up 1.5 per cent. Hon Hai is a major assembler for Apple Inc's popular iPhones, and the latest version of iPhones are expected to launch later this month and compete with smartphones by rival Samsung Electronics Co.

Australia, NZ dollars inch higher on positive economic news

The Australian and New Zealand dollars edged higher on Thursday as investors focussed on the positives in domestic economic data, though their longer-term direction remained at the mercy of a looming US jobs report.

The Australian dollar crawled ahead to US$0.7538 , from US$0.7520 late Wednesday, but was still down slightly for the week. Support lies around US$0.7490 with resistance at US$0.7580.

Australia's economic data proved a mixed bag but there were enough signs of improvement in business investment to keep the currency underpinned.

While business spending fell 5.4 per cent in the second quarter, firms upgraded their plans for the 2016/17 financial year in a promising sign of a long-awaited pick-up outside of mining.Click Here To Register For Free Trial Services OR Give A Missed Call : +6531581402 Follow Us On Twitter : www.twitter.com/epicresearchsg Like Us On Facebook : www.facebook.com/EpicResearchSingapore Need Any Assistance Feel Free To Mail Us at : info@epicresearch.sg

China home prices rise 7.9% year on year in July

39115331 - 18_07_2016 - CHINA-ECONOMY_HOMEPRICES.jpgAverage new home prices in China's 70 major cities rose 7.9 per cent in July from a year earlier, an official survey showed on Thursday.

That compared with a 7.3 per cent increase in June.

Home prices in Shenzhen and Xiamen had the biggest surge, rising 40.9 per cent and 39.2 per cent, respectively, from a year ago.

The booming property market has been a key driver of China's economic growth in the first half of the year as weak demand at home and abroad continue to take a toll on trade and investment.

But concerns are growing that the property rebound may be coming to an end as local governments tighten restrictions on home purchases to cool sharp price rises, which are sparking fears of asset bubbles.Click Here To Register For Free Trial Services OR Give A Missed Call : +6531581402 Follow Us On Twitter : www.twitter.com/epicresearchsg Like Us On Facebook : www.facebook.com/EpicResearchSingapore Need Any Assistance Feel Free To Mail Us at : info@epicresearch.sg
