Australia: Shares at 1-month low on US rate rise concerns

Australian stocks fell for a third straight session on Monday to their lowest in over a month as sentiment was dampened by comments from top US Fed officials raising the possibility of an interest rate hike this year.

The S&P/ASX 200 index fell 0.4 per cent as of 0232 GMT. The benchmark lost 0.5 per cent last Friday.

Fed chair Janet Yellen told a global monetary policy conference last Friday that the case for a rate increase had grown stronger, but she did not indicate when the Fed might hike rates.

However, Fed vice chair Stanley Fischer suggested a move could come at the central bank's September policy meeting if the economy was doing well.Click Here To Register For Free Trial Services OR Give A Missed Call : +6531581402 Follow Us On Twitter : www.twitter.com/epicresearchsg Like Us On Facebook : www.facebook.com/EpicResearchSingapore Need Any Assistance Feel Free To Mail Us at : info@epicresearch.sg

US dollar dips as dealers hope for US rate policy clues

The US dollar dipped Friday as dealers focus on a speech by Federal Reserve boss Janet Yellen later in the day they hope will supply fresh clues about the central bank's outlook for the US economy and monetary policy plans.

Markets hope Ms Yellen will provide some guidance in her remarks to the annual global bankers' symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming later Friday.

Her speech comes as leading central banks have proven unable to convincingly reverse a broad economic slump, despite years of ultra low borrowing costs and stimulus.

Divergent views from Fed officials in recent weeks have kept markets guessing about the bank's intentions.Click Here To Register For Free Trial Services OR Give A Missed Call : +6531581402 Follow Us On Twitter : www.twitter.com/epicresearchsg Like Us On Facebook : www.facebook.com/EpicResearchSingapore Need Any Assistance Feel Free To Mail Us at : info@epicresearch.sg

Seoul: Won, stocks take breather ahead of Yellen's speech

The South Korean won advanced on local exporters' demand on Friday, but gains were capped as traders looked ahead to a meeting of central bankers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with all eyes on a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.

The won was quoted at 1,114.2 against the US dollar as of 0200 GMT, up 0.2 per cent versus its previous close.

"Trading is expected to be mixed throughout the session on exporters' dollar sales and caution over a US interest rate hike in the near-term," said Jung Sung Yoon, an analyst at Hyundai Futures.

South Korean shares sagged for a third session but like the won, trading was subdued ahead of Ms Yellen's speech later in the day at the annual gathering of central bankers. The focus is on whether Ms Yellen could provide more clarity on US rates outlook for the rest of the year.Click Here To Register For Free Trial Services OR Give A Missed Call : +6531581402 Follow Us On Twitter : www.twitter.com/epicresearchsg Like Us On Facebook : www.facebook.com/EpicResearchSingapore Need Any Assistance Feel Free To Mail Us at : info@epicresearch.sg

Seoul: Stocks flat on foreign selling, won edges up

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (Kospi) was little changed at 2,045.16 points as of 0210 GMT.

Gold futures Update on 05- Aug'2016

Gold futures finished moderately higher Thursday after the Bank of England announced a rate cut for the first time since 2009 and unveiled a batch of stimulus measures aimed at stimulating the country’s economy in the wake of the June 23 vote to exit the European Union.
December gold GCZ6, +0.17%   rose $2.70, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,367.40 an ounce.
The BOE cut its key lending rate by a quarter of a percentage point to 0.25% and unfurled a mix of measures, including reviving its bond-buying program. Although the rate cut was expected, the additional stimulus measures surprised the market, and providing a jolt to haven assets.
This, coupled with easing measures from the Bank of Japan earlier in the week, are being viewed as supportive to the long-term outlook for gold prices.

SINGAPORE I-FOREX UPDATE BY EPIC RESEARCH

EUR/USD is currently trading with a bullish bias. Yesterday, the pair traded perfectly long as

previously forecasted but is yet to reach our set target resistance level at 1.1239. The daily

candle is still pretty much bullish and will likely push the price further to the upper side.

Thus, during this intraday, we expect a possible bullish price rally towards 1.1239 or even

higher to 1.1264. This pair should be traded alongside EUR/JPY, AUD/USD, NZD/USD and

GBP/USD. These pairs have a strong positive correlation of up to +0.96 and will have a similar

U.S. stocks end lower as crude oil re-enters bear market

U.S. stocks lost momentum to finish mostly lower Monday as crude-oil futures returned to bear-market territory and weaker-than-expected manufacturing data raised doubts about the strength of the economy.
“The path of least resistance in the short term seems to be for stocks to go higher, but to do so sustainably we need to see much stronger economic growth and positive earnings growth,” said Eric Wiegand, senior portfolio manager at U.S. Bank’s Private Client Reserve.
The S&P 500 shed 2.76 points, or 0.1%, to close at 2,170.84 after the large-cap gauge hit a record intraday high of 2,178.29. A 3.3% drop in the energy sector dragged the S&P 500 into negative territory, outweighing modest gains in health-care and tech stocks.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average  fell 27.73 points, or 0.2%, to close at 18,404.51.
However, the Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 22.06 points, or 0.4%, to end at 5,184.20, boosted by appetite for tech giants, including a 1.8% jump in shares of Apple Inc. .
Meanwhile, losses for crude snowballed, with the U.S. oil benchmark dropping almost 4% and at one point trading below the key $40 level amid worries about a supply glut and subdued demand. Crude oil is now off 21.8% from its peak of $51.23 a barrel hit in early June, signifying a bear market, or drop of at least 20% from a recent peak.
On the economic front, the Institute for Supply Management’s closely watched manufacturing index for July fell to 52.6 from 53.2, while construction spending fell 0.6% in June. The Markit manufacturing purchasing managers index for July rose to 52.9 compared with June’s 51.3.
“People are nervous as oil crashes below $40, given the context of the weak GDP report and somewhat weak ISM data. They are back to doubting whether the market’s rally is as strong as it could be,” said Bruce McCain, chief investment strategist at Key Private Bank.
Prospects for a near-term interest-rate increase by the Federal Reserve have faded since the weak GDP reading on Friday.
Corporate quarterly results will continue to feature prominently this week even as the season winds down, though no major companies reported Monday. So far, about two-thirds of S&P 500 companies have announced quarterly results thus far, with 71% beating on earnings and 57% reporting revenue above estimates, FactSet data show.
Fed speakers: The market appeared to brush aside comments from New York Federal Reserve Bank President William Dudley and Dallas Fed President Rob Kaplan, who both argued at separate events Sunday and Monday that an interest-rate hike this yearshouldn’t be ruled out.

Singaporeshares close lower on Thursday as oil and gas stocks tumble

THE Singapore market fell 0.78 per cent on Thursday, with the Straits Times Index dropping 22.87 points to 2,918.62 as investors sold down oil and gas counters.

About 1.25 billion shares worth S$878 million in total changed hands, which worked out to an average unit price of S$0.70 per share.

Losers outnumbered gainers 246 to 163, or about three down for every two up.

News of Swiber Holdings' winding-up application on Thursday took the market by surprise, and continued to dog the already-beleaguered oil and gas sector throughout the trading session.
