The Stoxx Europe 600 index XX:SXXP -0.54% lost 0.5% to
300.61, closing at the lowest level since late July. an-European index, shares
of Heineken NV NL:HEIA -3.98% slumped 4% after the brewer reported a 17% drop in
first-half earnings per share, saying it has suffered from bad weather and weak
demand in several markets in the Northern Hemisphere.
Rival brewer Carlsberg AS
DK:CARLB -1.60% gave up 1.6% as it reported a 38% drop in second-quarter net
profit
