Gold for February delivery GCG4 -0.03% was down 80 cents, or 0.1%, to $1,221.50 an ounce. Silver SIH4 -0.15% was hit as well, down 8 cents, or 0.4%, to $19.21 an ounce.
A day earlier, gold futures dropped by more than 2% amid freshened concerns of monetary-stimulus tapering by the U.S. Federal Reserve as monthly data on the U.S. manufacturing sector came in better than expected.
