The Dow DJIA -0.06% and the S&P 500 SPX -0.20% surpassed the 16,000 and 1,800 levels, respectively, on Monday, but failed to finish above those milestones. The Dow rose 14.32 points, or 0.1%, to end at 15,796.02, while the S&P 500 fell 6.65 points, or 0.4%, to close at 1,791.53.
