Elsewhere in metals trading Thursday, January platinum PLF4 -0.47%   lost $8.10, or 0.6%, to $1,334.60 an ounce, while palladium for March delivery PAH4 +0.03%   shed $1.70, or 0.2%, to $697.75 an ounce.

High-grade copper HGH4 -0.45%   gave up a penny, or 0.2%, to $3.31 a pound.
