While crude fell on Monday, natural gas NGG14 +0.89% rallied after a hefty loss last week. Severe cold temperatures in much of the U.S. in the first part of the week failed to rally prices for the heating fuel as temperatures rose by the end of that week.
On Monday, February natural gas added 22 cents, or 5.5%, to end at
$4.274 per million British thermal units. That was the highest close for
a most-active contract in a week, FactSet data show.
