Elsewhere in metals trading Friday, platinum for April delivery PLJ4 +0.37%  improved by $6.10, or 0.4%, to $1,437.60 an ounce, while March palladium PAH4 +0.11%   tacked on a dime to $743.90 an ounce.

High-grade copper for March delivery   HGH4 +0.14%  lost a penny, or 0.1%, to $3.34 a pound.
