Oil and other energy prices surged on Monday as investors moved to perceived safer investments as tensions between Western powers and Russia escalated over the weekend. Russian forces reportedly are now in complete control of the Crimean peninsula and the diplomatic situation is deteriorating with U.S. and European allies vowing to isolate Russia and punish it for its actions. Oil for April delivery CLJ4 +1.18% jumped $1.22, or 1.2%, to $103.81 a barrel, while Brent for the same month UK:LCOJ4 +1.56% surged $1.77, or 1.6%, to $110.83 a barrel. Within other contracts, natural gas for April delivery rose 9 cents, or 2%, to $$4.70 per million British thermal units, with yet another winter storm moving into the East Coast on Monday.
