Oil futures edged higher on Monday in New York to finish at a six-week
high, while Brent crude prices rallied above $109 a barrel as growing
tensions between Russia and the West over Ukraine fed concerns over
global oil supplies.
Crude oil for May delivery CLK4 -0.69% edged up by 31 cents, or 0.3%, to settle at $104.05 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Tracking the most-active contracts, prices closed at their highest level since March 3. Monday’s settlement was also the first close above $104 since that date. Prices had found some added support after data showed U.S. retail sales jumped a stronger-than-expected 1.1% in March.
