SINGAPORE--consumer prices in Singapore rose 2.5% year over year in April thanks to higher car prices.
The consumer price index accelerated 1.2% in March.
The rise matched a median estimate in a poll of five economists by The Wall Street Journal.
Transport prices--which has an index weighting of 16%--rose 5.0% as a
result of car prices on a lower base of comparison, the government and
central bank said.
Housing prices--which makes up 25% of the index--climbed 0.7%. Food prices--22% of the index--rose 3.1%, the data showed.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore's core inflation measure excludes
the cost of accommodation and private road transport. It rose to 2.3%
month over month from 2.0% on services, food and retail items, according
