The U.S. stock market was drifting lower on Monday as news that Japan fell into recession, as well softer-than-expected manufacturing data weighed on sentiment.The S&P 500 SPX, +0.07% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.07% retreated from record levels reached last week. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.37% edged lower.
