Noble Group, Singapore Exchange, ComfortDelGro Corporation, Ascendas REIT and Keppel Corporation were the five most active component stocks in the Straits Times Index (STI) by turnover velocity in the month-to-date.

These five STI constituents averaged total returns of 10.8% over the past one year, and 3.0% in the year-to-date. This compared to the STI’s total return of 11.7% over the past 12 months. These five stocks also offer an average dividend yield of 3.6%, which compares with the yield of the Singapore Fixed Income Index (SFI) at 2.98%.

Corporate activity and news were factors that drove the five constituent stock prices to year-lows and year-highs over the past month. Noble Group shares declined to their 12-month low on 10 April after Muddy Waters, the research firm founded by short seller Carson Block, published a report questioning the company’s cash flow and management. Noble has since issued statements declaring it has no liquidity problems. A-REIT hit a 12-month high on 10 April after completing the sale of a property – 26 Senoko Way – to JTC Corp. for S$24.8 million. SGX shares reached their 12-month high on 15 April, buoyed by rumours it was in the process of establishing a stock trading link along the lines of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect. The exchange subsequently denied these rumours in a statement.
