The dollar briefly broke above 124 yen Wednesday, hitting its highest intraday level since June 2007.The U.S. currency USDJPY, +0.33% recently traded at ¥123.80, down from its session high of ¥124.0750. It traded at ¥123.10 late Tuesday in New York. The euro EURUSD, +0.0183% was flat in recent trade at $1.0873.
In other currency trading, the dollar USDCAD, +0.1526% strengthened to 1.2461 Canadian dollars, compared with 1.2426 late Tuesday; the pound GBPUSD, -0.0586% weakened to $1.5347, compared with $1.5395.
The WSJ Dollar Index BUXX, +0.15% a measure of the dollar’s strength against a basket of major currencies, was up 0.11% at 87.29.
