In other metals trade, October platinum PLV5, -0.42%  tacked on $9.20, or 0.9%, to $1,083.70 an ounce, while September palladium PAU5, -0.51%  slumped by $16.35, or 2.4%, to $679.35 an ounce.

September copper HGU5, +0.11%  slipped by half a cent to $2.62 a pound.
