Keppel Data Centres Holding (KDCH) is developing a fourth data centre in Singapore.
KDCH, a joint venture between Keppel T&T and Keppel Land, has agreed to acquire a light industrial building from Mapletree Logistics Trust, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Keppel Datahub 3, for $20 million.
According to a separate filing by Mapletree Logistics Trust, the property at 20 Tampines Street 92 is located within the Tampines industrial estate.
The property comprises two blocks of light industrial buildings with ancillary office space and has a gross floor area of 9,251 sqm on a land site of 6,804 sqm.
The greenfield data centre development is located in close proximity to existing data centres operated by KDCH at Tampines, Keppel Datahub 1 and Keppel Datahub 2 and will be developed to Tier III, carrier-neutral specifications with robust security systems.
Construction will be undertaken in three phases with phase 1 core and shell construction and fit-out of the facility expected to be completed by 2016.
When fully completed, it will feature approximately 183,000-sq ft of Gross Floor Area (GFA), making it Keppel’s second largest data centre in Singapore after Keppel Digihub.
“Together with the portfolio of assets owned through KDCH and Keppel DC REIT, Keppel T&T will have one of the largest data centre footprints in Singapore,” says Keppel T&T in a filing.
Globally, the Keppel T&T Group has 11 data centre assets in six countries in the European and Asia-Pacific markets.
According to BroadGroup, data centre utilisation rates in Singapore have remained steadily close to 85.5%. It is estimated that increased demand from financial institutions will further push utilisation rates to 92.1% by 2018.
Keppel T&T closed 1 cent lower at $1.485 on Wednesday.
