ST Engineering, the defence contractor, posted 6% lower 2Q earnings to $125 million, or 4.01 cents per share, from $133.2 million a year ago. Revenue for the three months to June came in 3% lower at $1.55 billion, of which 64% came from commercial sales. The stock closed at $3.23 on Thursday.
Olam International's 2Q earnings nearly tripled to $94.7 million from $31.8 million a year ago. Turnover for the agriculture company fell 16.4% to $4.81 billion from $5.76 billion previously. However, operational PATMI (excluding exceptional items) in 2Q increased 96.3% to $95.2 million. Olam ended at $1.76 on Thursday.
Gaming and entertainment conglomerate Genting Singapore sunk into the red with a net loss of $16.9 million in the second quarter, from earnings of $102.3 million a year ago. The net loss is partly due to a fair-value loss on derivative financial instruments. Genting Singapore ended at 79 cents on Thursday.
Transport operator ComfortDelGro’s earnings rose 6.9% to $80.9 million in the second quarter, from $75.7 million in the previous corresponding quarter. Turnover for the land transport company grew 2.1% to $1.04 billion from $1.02 billion a year ago. ComfortDelGro ended at $3.03 on Thursday.
Thai Beverage reported a 6% growth in earnings to THB5.9 billion ($234 million). Group revenue fell 3% to THB39 billion for the quarter ended June, owing to a 4.7% decrease in sales revenue in its spirits business. Thai Beverage closed at 75.5 cents on Thursday.
Metro Holdings earnings surged to $37.5 million in the first quarter, more than treble the $10.1 million it posted a year earlier. The better bottom line came on the back of a higher share of results from joint ventures. Metro ended at 88 cents on Thursday.

US stocks finished flat overnight as a drop in energy shares offset a rebound in retail sales and stronger-than-expected Cisco results. Crude oil prices slid to a 6-1/2-year low.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 5.74 points, or 0.03%, to 17,408.25; the S&P 500 lost 2.66 points, or 0.13%, to 2,083.39; and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 10.83 points, or 0.21%, to 5,033.56.
On the local bourse on Thursday, the Straits Times Index (STI) ended the day 0.99% higher at 3,091.78, after trading between 3,063.60 and 3,103.49. Gainers outnumbered decliners 256 to 190. A total of 1.44 billion shares worth $1.39 billion changed hands.
