The operator of China’s futures exchange will restrict some clients from opening positions after they violated trading rules.
A total of 146 clients failed to fully report the users of their accounts, the China Financial Futures Exchange said in a statement today. Some clients exceeded the limit on their positions, according to the statement. The clients will be restricted from opening positions for three to six months, the exchange operator said. They will be included in a watch list for close monitoring, it said.
Volumes in the country’s CSI 300 Index and CSI 500 Index futures have tumbled to record lows as authorities raised margin requirements, tightened position limits and started a police probe into bearish wagers. China was ranked by the World Federation of Exchanges as the most active market for index futures as recently as July.
From this month, the China Financial Futures Exchange labels a position of more than 10 contracts on a single index future as “abnormal trading.” Before last month, investors could have as many as 600 contracts. The bourse has also raised fees for settling positions opened on the same day to 0.23% from 0.0115%.
