Singapore shares are trading higher at midday. As at 12.05pm, the benchmark Straits Times Index is up 8.46 points, or 0.30%, to 2,854.01 after US stocks closed higher overnight, recovering from last week’s steep losses following the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision.
In the broader market, 483.5 million shares valued at $250.9 million exchanged hands. Gainers outnumber losers 171 to 133.
Among the actively traded blue-chip stocks, Noble Group was up 1.2% at 43.5 cents on 15.8 million shares traded, while Golden Agri-Resources was flat at 34.5 cents on 11 million shares traded.
Terratech Group is down 1.72% at 5.7 cents. In a response to the query on unusual trading by the Singapore Exchange, the Malaysia-based marble producer said it constantly evaluates funding options but has no immediate explanation for the unusual trading.
Linc Energy is down 2.9% at 13.2 cents. The oil and gas company said it has entered into agreements to raise $2.9 million by selling 24 million new shares at 12.105 cents each and has received indicative support from noteholders holding over 69% of its US$200 million ($281 million) 7% convertible notes due 2018, for its plans to amend various terms of the notes.
Chasen is down 14.3% to 5.4 cents after the logistics services provider on Monday night said it was exploring a potential spin-off of part of its business in China by way of a listing of the company’s subsidiaries on the National Equities Exchange and Quotations, a stock exchange in China for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Amplefield is down 9.1% to 4 cents after the group said it has received approval from the Singapore Exchange for a 12 month extension of its deadline to exit the Watch List. The group now has until Dec 3, 2016 to exit the Watch List.
