Budget 2016 places correct emphasis on business: DBS

The maiden budget put forth by Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat's places relatively more emphasis on businesses as the government seeks to boost sagging economic growth, DBS says in a note.

The budget last week announced several short-term steps aimed at helping companies navigate the challenging business climate, DBS notes. The budget also seeks to address household and social issues.

“This creates the right balance between the need to transform the economy and the need to foster inclusive growth,” the bank says.

Singapore will ramp up investment in public infrastructure projects and defer levy increases on foreign workers in some sectors that have suffered most from a challenging business environment, among measures announced on Thursday.
