April natural gas futures NGJ16, +0.10% rose 6.8 cents, or 3.6%, to $1.936 per million British thermal units. Natural gas had initially weakened after the Energy Information Administration said inventories had fallen by just 1 billion cubic feet last week. Analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had penciled in a decline of 3 billion cubic feet.
Nymex reformulated gasoline blendstock for April RBJ6, +0.13% —the benchmark gasoline contract—rose 2 cents, or 1.4%, to $1.4383a gallon.
