Straits Times Index down 0.5% to 2,848.01

Singapore stocks are trading lower at noon, pushed lower as a bundle of large-cap companies report results.

At 12.09pm, the benchmark Straits Times Index was down 14.29 points or 0.50% to 2,848.01, with 477 million shares worth $606 million changing hands. Losers outnumbered gainers 170 to 123.

Cedar Strategic, ThaiBev, Rex International and Noble Group were among the most actives.

For the STI component stocks, Golden Agri-Resources and Wilmar International led the gainers, advancing 2.53% and 2.19% respectively. Jardine C&C and Ascendas REIT led the losers.

Nera Telecommunications is down 4.5% to 64 cents after revealing it is in an advanced stage of discussions for a possible sale of its payment solutions business. However, no binding agreement has been reached and there is no assurance of a deal.

Jardine Cycle & Carriage is down 3.2% to $38.94 after 1Q earnings fell 20% to US$140.6 million, or 36 US cents per share, on weaker contributions from its Astra subsidiary. Revenue declined 9% to US$3.6 billion.

SMRT is up 3% to $1.525 following its first quarter results announcement. The masss transport operator said net profit for the three months to the end of March was $26.6 million, up 27.6% from a year earlier.

Japfa is down 2.1% to 68.5 cents after earnings more than trebled to US$23.4 million ($31.5 million) in the first quarter ended March 31, 2016, from US$6.9 million a year ago. Revenue rose 6% to US$717.7 million from US$675.7 million.

Citic Envirotech is down 2.1% to $1.385 after posting a 39.1% jump in earnings to $12.3 million in 1Q. Revenue for the quarter rose 62.5% to $99.5 million, owing to increased engineering business and membrane sales.
