Marco Rodriguez refereed the Uruguay v Italy group game when striker Suarez bit defender Giorgio Chiellini off the ball.
The official was following play elsewhere at the time so took no action, but FIFA gave Suarez a four-month ban from football and a nine-game suspension from playing for Uruguay - the severest ever sanction at a World Cup.

Fifa World Cup Market News Update : Epic Research Singapore

Brazil stoked controversy ahead of the World Cup semi-finals here Sunday by calling on FIFA to scrap the suspension which has ruled captain Thiago Silva out of the host nation's clash with Germany.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said it wanted FIFA to rescind the yellow card awarded against Silva during Friday's bruising quarter-final win over Colombia.
The card against Silva was "unjustly shown" and the defender should therefore be allowed to face the Germans in Belo Horizonte, the CBF said in a statement.
The Brazilian association also demanded FIFA launch an investigation into the "violent challenge" by Colombia's Juan Zuniga which saw star striker Neymar ruled out of the tournament.

Fifa World Cup Market News Update : Epic Research Singapore

Brazil defeated Colombia 2-1 and Germany beat France 1-0 in the World Cup quarter-finals on Friday to set up a heavyweight semi-final showdown.

An early goal from Brazil skipper Thiago Silva and a stunning free-kick from David Luiz was enough to give the World Cup hosts victory over Colombia in a niggly last eight meeting in Fortaleza.

Colombia's star James Rodriguez left the field in tears after his sixth goal of the tournament, an 80th-minute penalty, was not enough to prevent Brazil from advancing to Tuesday's semi-final in Belo Horizonte.

The victory came at a cost for Brazil, though, with captain Silva picking up a yellow card which will see him suspended for the clash with the Germans.

Nice's controversial ban on "ostentatious" displays of foreign flags for the duration of the World Cup was lifted on Friday on the orders of an administrative court.
Following an appeal by two rights group in the French Riviera city, the court termed the move by right-wing mayor Christian Estrosi as "disproportionate" to the actual threat posed by public order by potential unrest among fans.
Mr Estrosi declared the ban on Monday ahead of the Algeria-Germany second round match following incidents of unrest around Algeria's previous matches in several French urban centres.

Fifa World Cup Market News Update : Epic Research Singapore

Football's powerful governing body came under renewed scrutiny after a Brazilian police chief said Thursday a FIFA member provided thousands of World Cup tickets sold illegally at games for millions of dollars.
Police commissioner Fabio Barucke said "someone from FIFA" and "an intermediary from Match Hospitality", FIFA's ticket agency, had channelled the tickets onto the black market.
The FIFA figure, whom police are trying to identify, is believed to be staying at the Copacabana Palace, a luxury Rio de Janeiro hotel used by some FIFA hierarchy at the World Cup, Mr Barucke told reporters.
The scandal is the latest to hit FIFA, which is already battling allegations that members accepted bribes from a Qatari football official to secure support for the emirate's campaign to get the 2022 World Cup finals.

Fifa World Cup Market News Update : Epic Research Singapore

Over the past year it seemed every blackout, traffic jam or cancelled flight in Brazil was met with the same refrain: "Just imagine during the World Cup." The doomsayers could not have imagined how well the tournament would go. The first three weeks of the World Cup have been as remarkable for the mostly smooth logistics and carefree atmosphere as for the thrilling play on the pitch.
After months of hand wringing over unfinished public works, violent protests and costly stadiums delivered at the last minute, impressions of the host country have swung 180 degrees.
And many Brazilians are still angry about the US$11 billion of public spending on an event that will likely leave at least four stadiums as white elephants and few of the urban transit projects that were promised.

Fifa World Cup Market News Update : Epic Research Singapore

Most Brazilians attending World Cup matches are white, wealthy and dissatisfied with leftist President Dilma Rousseff's government, said a survey published Sunday.
Of the Brazilian fans attending Saturday's round of 16 match between the host nation and Chile, 75 per cent were men, 67 per cent were white and 90 percent were middle-class or wealthier, pollsters Datafolha found.
It said there was little sign in the stadiums of the rising middle class that has emerged under Rousseff and her predecessor, fellow leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Only nine percent of Brazilian fans were from the so-called "C Class," the lower-middle-class income bracket defined as monthly earnings of US$500 to US$2,000 - which now covers 49 per cent of Brazil's population.

Fifa World Cup Market News Update : Epic Research Singapore

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez said on Friday that Luis Suarez had been made a "scapegoat" for biting an opponent at the World Cup, lashing out at the "excessive severity" of his four-month ban.
"Many times you forget that the scapegoat is a person, who has rights," said Tabarez, who read out a pre-prepared statement during a press conference ahead of Uruguay's last-16 game against Colombia on Saturday.
"In this specific case of Luis Suarez, despite the faults he may have committed, he has made significant contributions to football from the pitch." Tabarez also said the punishment was "of excessive severity" and claimed that it was "more focused on the opinions of the media".

Fifa World Cup Market News Update : Epic Research Singapore

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal of the World Cup but crucially wasted several other good chances in Portugal's 2-1 win over a haphazard Ghana on Thursday that sent both sides home.
The Portuguese finished level on four points with the United States in Group G but the Americans advanced to the last 16 courtesy of a better goal difference despite their 1-0 loss to group winners Germany in Recife.
The World Player of the Year could have changed that had he converted three great chances which would have sent the Europeans through at the expense of the U.S. on goals scored.
