rose 11.46 points, or 0.6%, to finish at 1,847.71, which was just under
its Jan. 15 record close of 1,848.38. Activity on the M&A front, an
upbeat report on German confidence and the S&P 500 pushing toward
that record level were all factors driving the advances.
