After trading above $1.10 for most of the North American session Monday, the euro abruptly fell in midafternoon trade, but remained higher on the day.
The euro EURUSD, +0.05% traded at $1.0939 in recent trade, compared with $1.0895 Friday. The U.S. currency USDJPY, +0.03% traded higher versus the Japanese yen at ¥119.46 compared with ¥118.93 late Friday in New York.
The euro EURGBP, -0.11% shed about 30 pips against the pound over the same period of time, and recorded a similarly dramatic decline against the EURJPY, +0.10% yen. One euro was worth 73.46 pence in recent trade, compared with 73.02 pence late Friday.
The WSJ Dollar Index BUXX, -0.15% a measure of the dollar against a basket of major currencies, was up 0.2% at 86.83.
